Last week I was walking through Deseret Book and saw a book titled "I Hate It When Exercise Is the Answer" by Emily Watts. I wasn't feeling especially thin that day so I thought I would buy it with the hope that it would help motivate me to get my butt off the couch and moving.
If I had looked at the book a little closer I would have seen the subtitle - "A Fitness Program for the Soul".
I read it anyway. And I was reminded that exercise really IS the answer!
We exercise our faith when we pray and read scriptures.
We exercise relationships when we serve.
We exercise our understanding when we gain perspective.
We exercise our hearing when we really listen.
We exercise our gratitude when we express it.
We exercise our humility when we allow someone besides ourselves win.
And yes, we exercise our bodies by - wait for it - you guessed it - EXERCISING!
So, since I finished the book, I have tried to exercise. Not just physically, but also spiritually. And guess what! I have lost four pounds and I'm a lot calmer and happier.
It's amazing what a little exercise will do!
