Curve Ball

7:09 A.M.  phone rings, caller ID says Church Jesus ChristIt's the Stake President.  He'd like to meet with us after church (4:30).  Pit in stomach.

1:05 P.M. (approximately)  Stake President announces there will be a change in the bishopric next week.  Pit in stomach is growing larger.

4:30 P.M.  Waiting with much anticipation in the stake office to meet with Stake President.  We're finally sitting across the desk from the Stake President and the call is extended - 2nd counselor in the bishopric.  Suddenly there isn't enough air in the room due to the pit in stomach being so large it is blocking all airways.

We are shocked, humbled, frightened, excited - OVERWHELMED.

We sat in our driveway a full 10 minutes when we got home trying to figure out what just happened.

It has been a very long week.  Yesterday, Matt was set apart as the 2nd counselor in the bishopric of our ward.  It has been quite a ride as we kept this secret from our beloved friends in our ward.  Yesterday was a relief that the news was finally out and we could quit avoiding those friends for fear of revealing our secret.

We are humbled to have received this calling.  Matt is definitely the right person as is the entire bishopric.  We have had that confirmation.  And although we don't know how this is going to work since Matt is currently a full time student as well as a full time provider, we do know that the Lord will provide a way.  We are placing our lives in His hands with full faith and confidence that Matt will have the stamina that he will need to complete his education and fulfill this new calling.

Moral of the story:  If the phone rings at 7:00 Sunday morning, don't answer it.

Congratulations Matt!

It will be a blessing to you, your family and ward.

And yes it will be a full time schedule but the Lord will provide and things will work out.

The Lord loves your whole family.

Amen to Fred. It's sort of a 'tithing' thing - it shouldn't work, but somehow it does. There's always 'enough'. You will really be a blessing to your ward. M.A.
